Mapping Absence

2025

Mapping Absence is an installation of reduction woodcut prints. The technique play the balance of loss and creation producing an image by gradually removing parts of the block. The image derives from a live drawing of the shadows of a tree near my studio. Walking and discovering the image through this process shaped the work. The composition explores the relationship between positive and negative space, presence and absence. Through repetition and distance, the shadow becomes a map, an abstract record of movement, memory, and how space is experienced.
